About This Game
All alone you awake on an derelict ship, floating on seas unknown to you. Are you a traveller, from another time, or from another realm? You don’t know.
You won’t be alone for long, since this ship has a way of attracting things. First a couple of castaways, but soon also things much darker. For the ship you’re on is cursed, and with it, its crew.
You cannot prevent what lays ahead of you, all you can do is take control over what is happening. The only way to survive is to be a captain, the captain of the cursed crew.
Cursed crew is a rogue-like naval ship simulator, where you run a 18th century sailing ship in a fantasy setting. You control a captain, and it’s your responsibility that the crew survives all the perils of the dark seas you’re sailing. You need to make sure there are enough resources like timber, food and cannonballs on the ship, and when hell breaks loose, you have to guide your (not always competent) crew through it. As the game progresses, your crew gets more and more cursed, adding unique twists to your playthrough. If you make the right decisions, curses may actually be beneficial to your survival.
You Control The Captain
Your crew is pretty self sufficient: they have a work schedule, and by following that, they cover the basic needs on a ship. However, if anything unusual happens, for instance when a kraken starts entangling your ship, your crew needs you as a captain to guide them through it.
Cursed Crew
Your ship and its crew is cursed, and gets more and more cursed the longer you travel with it. The game will have dozens of curses, and each will have a unique effect on your playthrough. There is for instance a curse that attracts flocks of chickens to your ship which you can tame, but also leave a mess, and there’s another curse that makes all animals more powerful. Imagine getting both, you can breed an army of killer chickens to defend your ship!
Bombarding Action
You’re definitely not the only captain sailing the seas of Cursed Crew, and not everyone out there is friendly. They may not want to parlay with you, so perhaps they will listen to the sound of your cannons!
We’ve added a variety of interesting cannons that you can play around with, including fire cannons, hull breaching cannons, harpoon guns, grapeshot cannons and more!
Survive in the Harsh World
Defeating any foes that you encounter is not enough to survive the harsh world of Cursed Crew. Making unpopular decisions like spending the fortune you’ve amassed on a nice captain’s hat instead of on food, or sacrificing crewmembers to the depths of the sea to get away from a monster lurking there might result in mutiny at some point. In order to survive, you need to make sure your crew is well fed, loyal, and sane.
Between locations and events, you will be sailing across the seas. It’s not as easy as it sounds, though, as this is where the worst can happen – mutiny, starvation, dying from cold or heat or simply going insane. During this time you will be building new structures, writing schedules for your crew, crafting new weapons and upgrading the ship with new utilities, devices, furniture and much more.
Depending on the type of ship and what kind of sails you have, travelling between locations on the map can take anywhere between days and weeks!
Brave the Elements
It’s not just the pirates, creatures of the sea, starvation, mutiny and sanity that you have to worry about. Cursed Crew features a weather system that will change the way you play the game. From strong winds that will either allow you to run away from threats or make you unable to escape them, to rains and storms, you will have to keep in mind what sort of weather is upon you, and adapt accordingly.
Encounter Legendary Creatures
Pirates are dreaded by most, but there are dangers far more serious lurking in the depths. At this point, we’ve implemented our first boss: The megalodon: An ancient shark capable of devouring entire ships, supported by large packs of white killer sharks. We plan to add in a large variety of other sea creatures, small or big, friendly or hostile, each unique. The cursed crew world will contain real creatures (chickens, seagulls, crabs), mythological creatures (dragons, krakens etc.), and we might let loose our own fantasy as well.
Meet the Captain
Before the game starts, you get to pick the captain. You can completely customize their appearance. Want a young man with a giant moustache? An old lady with a giant moustache? It’s all up to you. The game revolves all around the captain and it should be your main priority to keep them alive. If your captain dies, the game is over. Don’t worry though, death is part of this game. Each time you play, you’ll encounter different crew, different curses, different cannons and different events. You might have also unlocked new features for the next playthrough, like ships, traits, curses, items and more. So while death is harsh, it’s also a great opportunity to get a new unique playthrough.
Meet the Crew
You aren’t much of a captain if you don’t have any crew to command. You start the game completely alone, but soon you’ll encounter castaways that will join your crew. You never know who you’re taking in by the way. Each crewmember has unique traits, and some may be more of a nuisance than of any use. Your crewmembers will take care of the repairs, operate the ship, prepare dinner, fish, load and fire any cannons, and defend your ship. Take care of them well, and they’re a great asset, but neglect them, and they may become disloyal, or crazy, or they’ll just perish. A crew member can be a weakling, a fishing champion, a coward, or afraid of chickens, or all of those at the same time. We already have almost 50 traits in the pipeline, so you’ll be surprised what odd trait combinations you might encounter.
The Ship
At the start of the game, you can pick the ship you start with from a selection of ships. Since you’re cursed to stay on your ship, this will be the ship for your entire playthrough. Each ship has a unique layout, unique starting curses ,and a unique loadout that you start with.
You’re the interior decorator of your ship, so you can decide exactly what’s on your ship, and where everything is placed. A good ship has well placed cannons, a place to sleep, crafting stations like a woodworking bench, a tailoring bench and a smithy, a cartography table, a kitchen and more.
Throughout the game you will be able to get a hold of many different resources – some more valuable like diamonds and gold, some more nourishing such as peas, lemons and salted beef, and some necessary for repairs and construction. If you waste all your wood on making chairs and tables for people to eat from, you might not have enough of it to repair the ship after combat!
